Pearl River

Pearl River

Two places with the same beautiful rounded object in their names are found by the banks of a river, one in St. Tammany Parish in Louisiana and the other at the Louisiana Stateline in Hancock County, Mississippi. These communities are as resilient and filled with luster and hope as pearls are. Even after they have experienced quite a harsh beating, both Pearl River and Pearlington have risen from the ashes like a phoenix reborn.

Pearl River has a total area of 2.5 square miles and has a population of about 1,900 who reside in Pearl River, LA real estate. A lot of loggers used to stay in what is now Pearl River. They used to holler at one another as they worked hard by the river. Because of this, the town gained the nickname of Halloo. Back then it was a railroad town and in 1886 a train station was finally built which led to the start of the progress of the community. First a store was established then the village steadily grew. With this growth came the change in name of the town. They outgrew the moniker Halloo, so the name became Pearl, then Pearlville, and finally Pearl River after the train station. Come 1906, Pearl River was incorporated in the state of Louisiana when Governor Newton Crain Blanchard granted the request of 200 residents made eight years earlier.

Present day Pearl River has come a long way from its beginnings as a railroad town, but it still maintains its cozy atmosphere where neighbors help neighbors and no one is a stranger. There's quite a bit to do around Pearl River and Pearlington. Nearby is the Pearl River Wildlife Management Area which encompasses most of the Honey Island Swamp. This area has a rich diversity of living organisms. If you want to teach your children how ecology works, a tour around the area is a great way to do so. River tours can also be taken on Honey Island Swamp where the main attractions are the gators lurking in the water just waiting for you to snap their photos. Since both Pearl River and Pearlington aren't far from happening New Orleans, you can enjoy the pleasures of living in a rural setting while being able to take advantage of all the perks of a big city.

Everyone knows the awful damage Hurricane Katrina caused the Gulf Coast. It was a horrible natural disaster that destroyed properties and took lives. Residents of Pearlington Real Estate had the experience first hand. Now, nearly two years later, the community is as close and strong as ever. They have been rebuilding their homes on their spacious lots with the help of volunteers. It won't be long before this little town will be better than it was before. This fairly segregated area is full of wonderful people who open their hearts and welcome everybody even after the travesty they have been through. As they say in every cloud, there is a silver lining. The Hurricane swept through and took a whole lot, but it left the people stronger and more committed than ever. These two gems in Louisiana and Mississippi have bounced back and will be just as valuable as the pearls that they are.
